Neurostructural correlates of dispositional self-compassion

چکیده
Self-compassion is an important emotion regulation strategy predicting positive psychological health and fewer psychopathological problems, but little known about its structural neural basis. In the current study, we investigated neurostructural correlates of dispositional self-compassion components using voxel-based morphometry (VBM). We found that was inversely correlated with gray matter volume (GMV) in left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC), which primarily driven by reduced self-judgment component. also mindfulness component associated greater GMV dorsomedial cortex/anterior cingulate supplementary motor area, while isolation over-identification were both right inferior temporal gyrus, additionally related to less visual areas. Our findings suggest are brain structure regions involved regulation, self-referential processing, implications for cognitive mechanisms as well those underlying effects on outcomes.

Dispositional Correlates of Informal Volunteering
The present study investigated dispositional variables that underlie informal volunteering, service that occurs outside of any organizational structure. Dispositional variables previously related to formal volunteering, individualism/collectivism and intrinsic/extrinsic motivation, were examined along with perceived locus of control. Time spent in informal service was related to collectivism, i...
متن کاملCompassion for Others and Self-Compassion: Levels, Correlates, and Relationship with Psychological Well-being
Compassion for others and self-compassion are assumed to be closely related concepts. Yet, as they have been mostly studied separately, little is known about their relationship and to what extent they differ or resemble each other with respect to their correlates. This cross-sectional study aimed to gain knowledge on their mean levels, interrelationship, and relationships to psychological well-...
متن کاملAssociations among dispositional mindfulness, self-compassion, and executive function proficiency in early adolescents.
The study objective was to examine the effects of two conceptually related constructs, self-compassion and dispositional mindfulness, on executive function (EF) proficiency among early adolescents. Executive function refers to a set of psychological processes governing emotional regulation, organization, and planning. While the benefits of positive psychology appear evident for mental health an...
متن کاملNeural correlates of admiration and compassion.
In an fMRI experiment, participants were exposed to narratives based on true stories designed to evoke admiration and compassion in 4 distinct categories: admiration for virtue (AV), admiration for skill (AS), compassion for social/psychological pain (CSP), and compassion for physical pain (CPP). The goal was to test hypotheses about recruitment of homeostatic, somatosensory, and consciousness-...
متن کاملA Reconsideration of the Self-Compassion Scale’s Total Score: Self-Compassion versus Self-Criticism
The Self-Compassion Scale (SCS) is currently the only self-report instrument to measure self-compassion. The SCS is widely used despite the limited evidence for the scale's psychometric properties, with validation studies commonly performed in college students. The current study examined the factor structure, reliability, and construct validity of the SCS in a large representative sample from t...
